Grad!

Yup, I'm graduating high school this year. Exciting, no? After being reminded of this fact yesterday I cannot seem to get grad dresses off my mind. I'm looking for something knee-length with sleeves, and under $250 (the lower, the better). After perusing the internet, it's clear that there is no lack of knee-length plus-size dresses with sleeves. I hope this isn't a bad sign.

After seeing this last dress, I felt like it may be the one. The colours lovely, it looks comfortable, seems to have a nice shape. And the floral stiching along the neckline and sleeves is so perfect! How would I wear it? With these shoes and this necklace:

While I'm (of course) not buying my grad dress this soon, I'm really loving this outfit. Honestly? As soon as I put together this ensemble I had a "must. buy. now." moment but it will have to wait. There are too many reasons not to buy my grad dress/outfit this soon, including the fact that I couldn't wait until May to wear it!

Sunday evening

I had one of those boring weekends spent doing chores and homework. But, Sunday evening I did go to a play with my father. Not only was it a really good play, it gave me a reason to get out of my pyjamas (kidding lol). It's unlikely, but if any of you get the chance to see Victoria Martin: Math Team Queen, DO! It's just great.

Cardigan and skirt are thrifted. Leggings are from American Apparel. Tank top is from Old Navy. Boots are from Naturalizer. Ring was from a street vendor and pin was free from the Re-use Centre.

Outfits

No OOTD today as I'm not feeling well, but atleast this means I have time to waste making fantasy outfit collages on Paint. Amiright? Clicking on the pictures will take you to the whole picture, Blogspot only has room for quite narrow pictures? I am new to blogging, clearly.

Jeans from Old Navy Coat from Land's End Scarf from Banana Republic Boots from Barefoot Tessa

Top from Old Navy Bracelet from Forever 21 Denim leggings from Evans Gabrielle Rocha flats, via Zappos

Denim leggings from Evans Patterned top from Evans Scarf from Old Navy Bracelet from Forever 21 Flats from Barefoot Tessa

Hope you enjoy! Man, I especially love the flats from the last outfit, and look at their sale price!! I wish I had any money to spend.

Faith 21 now available in Canada!

Thanks to LJ user wakasume for the heads up.

Yup, you heard it right: Faith 21 now offers shipping to Canada and is available in select Canadian stores.
Check it out!

Now, Faith 21 has gotten a lot of critique, especially since they only carry XL - 2X (size 16). But since I have been able to find some items from Forever 21 that fit my ample body, and I'm not the only one, I remain optimistic. Here are a couple things I like from what they're offering:

I'm fortunate to live near one of the locations in Canada where it will be available in store, so I hope to check it out within the next week. When I do, I'll definitely post about it.

Day 1 - Wednesday

For a sunrise or sunset, your lover is an actress.
Did you really think she’d stay?
For a sunrise or sunset.
You’re either coming or you just left but you’re always on the way.
Towards a sunrise or a sunset, a scribble or a sonnet.
They are really just the same.

Leggings and t-shirt are from American Apparel. Skirt is thrifted and hand altered. Canvas sneakers are from Payless. Largest bangle is from Ten Thousand Villages, all of the smaller ones are thrifted. Ring is from street vendour.

A Week in Outfits

I thought it'd be fun to take a photo of my outfit everyday for the next week. I'm in my final year of highschool (yesss!) and I don't want to get too lazy with what I wear to school. I'll be taking pictures in the morning before school, since no one need see me right after school. Dishevelled, to say the least. I'll post the outfits in the afternoon. This little exercise will likely pump up my fashion choices but I still think it's interesting to really see what people where on a day-to-day basis. I'll be starting this tomorrow.

Night-e-o!

Mall Trip

This morning I headed over to my city's biggest mall. I'm not a huge fan of mall shopping but I had my eye on these leggings (in both black and charcoal) from Old Navy.

When I got there, I realised they had changed the layout of the store, or in the middle of doing so. When I actually found any leggings to speak of, they were in purple and slate grey (not the salt and pepper kind I was eyeing) and had gold zippers at the ankle. NO offence to anyone who may want/already has those leggings, but they're not my style. Not to mention that they only had size xs-m. I hope this is because the larger sizes were sold out. Since I had trekked to the mall anyways, I grabbed a few things an headed to the changing rooms. The only really spectacular thing I tried on was this dress in an XXL.

Beautiful, ain't it? It was a bit tight in the chest but i undid the top two buttons and with a black tank top underneath it would look great. It fit graciously over my ample tummy, and has a lovely a-line shape even without the belt. The fabric tie belt gives it some nice waist-defination, and I think it'd look great with a braided brown leather belt. It's a very nice length (above knee without being a mini-dress) and I think it would be versatile enough to wear in warm or cold weather. I'd love it in the summer with woven flats or sandals, like either of these.

I did not purchase it today but I will be purchasing it in the near future. The only thing I did go home with were these basic black leggings in an XL.

That being said, I'm still on the lookout for dark heather grey/charcoal leggings or tights that are atleast 50% cotton and fit my ample bod.

super steals

Not really OOTDs, just showing off a few purchases from today.

Dress is from the Gap, size L (it fits quite gerneously, as I am not a large) $15
Necklaces (they're two) were free from the Re-use Centre
I'll be wearing this dress with this cardigan in grey once it arrives in the mail.

Skirt is from the Gap, size XL $9
Both the skirt and the dress have pockets, yes!

I also bought a pair of super opaque black tights, and got three pins (two of which were free). Oh, and these shoes that had completely broken after only 3 weeks have now been replaced and should be here this week.

Saturday morning

I’ve been sick with an awful cold and totally exhausted so I decided that dressing up a bit might improve my mood. I wore this to go to the farmer’s market and to the Re-use Centre, things I refer to as fun Saturday morning errands. According to Katie of What Katie Wore you “should always wear a silk scarf with a sore throat.” I will add that you should also wear a cardigan, as to not make yourself any sicker.

I'm not sure why the picture quality is so poor over my face, perhaps it is fate.

Cardigan and skirt are American Apparel, scarf is second hand and the heart pendant was gifted but bought at Urban Outfitters 2 years ago. Lily pin is from the Salvation Army. Because of the 3 dimensional shape of the flower it isn’t astounding from the front but when I look down this is the view I get. It’s lovely, as lilies are my favourite flower, and effective in cheering myself up.

These boots are from Aldo. When Aldo began carrying some of their shoes in size 11 I was ecstatic and began ordering some. I purchased these over their website in the spring and have yet to wear them. It’s worth mentioning that their size 11 runs small (at least in boots) and I’ve actually returned a pair of size 11 boots because they just did not fit at all. These do fit, but the smaller foot and structured heel means I can only wear them with tights (I also, may, use a shoe horn). I do really like them and since I own them anyway I hope I can get some use out of them this autumn. Speaking of which, we have finally been blessed with real autumn weather in my neck of the woods. I bit of a rain on Thursday lowered the temperature from a record-breaking 32 degrees to a much more acceptable, if chilly, 20. The leaves are falling, the air is crisp, and it actually smells like autumn. A perfect time to break out a new pair of boots, no? I should add, however, that the structured heel of the boot did rub against my heels, adding new pain to old blisters. I will wait until they've healed to wear them again.

KEEP ON BROWSING!
