Make-up Monday: my make-up bag(s)

A few days ago my friend asked me to do a post on my make-up collection, and I thought that'd be perfect for Make-up Monday. I do not have a lot of make-up. While I'm certainly not lacking, I also don't collect make-up in the same way that a lot of other people do. I own make-up, sure, but it's not exactly a collection for me, y'know? I don't want eyeshadows in every colour of the rainbow, or every LE lip gloss MAC puts out. I just want products that work for me, that I like and like to wear. Having too much in my make-up bag is one of my biggest pet peeves. I only want products that I use at least semi-regularly. I also don't experiment too much with make-up. I did that when I was younger, but now I know what I want in products and in an overall look. This makes it easier to keep a more minimalistic make-up bag. My make-up collection includes a mix of drug store brands, and higher end brands. In grade 9 and 10, I bought a lot of MAC make-up. I was young, had a job, and thought that the brand of make-up I used had some sort of deeper meaning. It doesn't. Often, high end brands are of higher quality, but if a product works for you, it doesn't matter the brand. All of that being said, here is my make-up collection. Because I'm posting literally everything I own, I am not including product descriptions, but if you have any questions about a specific product you are more than welcome to ask in the comments.

First off, I have three different make-up bags. The small purple bag I keep in my purse, and holds my powder and lip balms, as well as bobby pins and the like. The mid-sized bag contains products I use most frequently. They largest bag contains everything else that I don't use as frequently, things like coloured eyeshadow, bright blush, and red lipstick.

Make-up Monday: Purple wings

There's only one place that I know of that sells Prestige cosmetics, but since I was in the right neighbourhood last week I picked up a new liquid eyeliner, this time in purple. I cannot get enough of Prestige eyeliner, I want it in every colour.

This week's Make-up Monday is a bit quicker. Rather than showing the process, I just photographed the end look. This is actually the make-up I wore yesterday. It's a lot more subtle than what I normally do for winged eyeliner, and I love it.

Make-up Monday: Skincare and the basics

I recently got asked a question about my skincare routine on Formspring, and I often get compliments on my skin, so I thought I'd include a bit of skincare with this week's Make-up Monday.


First I wash my face with Neutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleanser. I use two pumps, and rub it between my hands with a bit of water to make a foam.

All clean!


Then I spritz my face with Lush Tea Tree Water Toner. I spritz a handful of times, making sure I get all of my face, and then wait a few minutes to let it dry.


Next, I apply Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Combination Skin. One pump is enough, and I apply it all over my face and neck.


If there are any spots that still feel dry, I apply The Body Shop's Aloe Soothing Day Cream just to the dry places. The little creases by my nose always get the driest.


My face is moisturized, but I can't forget my lips. I use Blistex Ultra Protection with SPF 30. It has a nice, light, unoffensive, non-medicinal scent (which matters a lot for me) and it makes my lips feel great. There, my lips are kissable!


I like to wait and let my moisturizer sink in, so during this time I usually do my hair. This look is what I consider to be the minimum when I wear make-up. It's very basic, quick, and easy.

I apply Mac Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15 all over my face. It doesn't provide much coverage, but it prevents shine and makes my skin feel silky.


Then I grab my Lise Watier palette. I apply the blush to the apples of my cheeks and the white eyeshadow under my brows and to the inner corner of my eyes. By highlighting, you automatically make you eyelids appear darker, so I don't apply any more eyeshadow after this.


If there's one thing I have a surplus of in my make-up bag, it's brown pencil eyeliner. I grab any which one and lightly line my upper and lower lash line.


Then I curl my eyelashes and apply my favourite mascara, Rimmel Lash Maxxx in Black.

Make-up Monday: Touch of teal

I'm really excited to introduce a new weekly feature here on the ol' blog, Make-up Monday! I've gotten very positive feedback on my make-up posts in the past (thanks everyone!) and have been wanting to introduce a weekly feature for a while, so this works out perfectly! This is no subtle look, but I thought it was a lot of fun. I apologize that my bangs are super messy in the first few photos.

After applying Quo Mineral Sheer Tint tinted moisturizer in Porcelain, I apply Smashbox Skin tint in Tint to the apples of my cheeks. Smashbox Skin tint is a really nice cream formula that can be used on your cheeks and lips.


I blend the blush using my fingers and apply Mac Select Sheer Pressed Powder in NC15 on top of everything.


On to the eyes.

1. Mac Cork
2. Mac Hey (part of Fafi Eyes 1, but not LE)
3. The white from the Lise Watier Vintage Moderne Palette

I apply the white under my brows and on the inner corner of my eyes as a highlight, apply Cork across the lid, and dab Hey on the centre of my lids.


Time for teal! I found this pigment at Save on Foods for a few dollars and it is a wonderful colour and formula. I take an eyeliner brush, spritz it with water, and dip it into the teal pigment. Then I apply it under my eyes.






Using my Prestige liquid eyeliner in Azure, I draw on the winged liner.


After I've got a nice shape I like, I bring the teal out underneath so it is part of the 'wing.'


Finally, I apply some mascara and lip gloss and the look is done!
