O-la-lala-OOTD

This evening I went to the mall (the largest mall in my city, in fact) with my older sister. I'll post my purchases tomorrow, but for now here's my outfit.

OOTD

faux-leather

Shirt - Old Navy size XXL
Jeans - Old Navy size 18
Flats - Aldo size 11
Necklace - made and gifted by my sister
Purse - purchased from the Tin Box here in Edmonton (I think there are a few locations, but alas, no website)

Yes, I did take this picture in an old Navy fitting room. :)

My sister made this necklace for me for Christmas, she made the beads out of an oven-bake clay and then threaded them on this ribbon. It's so lovely, and the fact that she made it makes it extra special. I bought this purse a few days before Christmas, with Christmas money given to me by my aunt, and I cannot get enough. The colour is gorgeous, and it's the nicest faux-leather I've ever felt. It's so soft and not at all plasticy, I actually had to double check a few times and make sure it really wasn't leather.

Photo Update

Sorry for not posting lately, as you can assume it's had to do with the holidays. My older sister from Vancouver is currently visiting, and I'm having a lot of fun. Here are some photos of my Christmas (minus my family) in hopes to appease you. I also have on OOTD, so continue on to the bottom.

First up is Christmas baking, yum!

Cand cane cookies! I took these to school early in the last week before holidays, they're very tasty and so cute.

These brownies are oh so delicious. I made a batch-and-a-half and took them to school, to a church potluck, and even had some left over for home.

These gingerbread cookies are a family tradition. My mom, sister, and I always have so much fun decorating them, and they taste great. Check out the awesome Santa my sister decorated.

I made the star on top when I was thirteen. Lovely, huh?

This is my favourite Christmas ball on the tree.

I like this one a lot too. We bought it at folk on the Rocks in Yellowknife a few years ago.

I love this nativity scene, we've been putting it up my whole life.

Guinea pigs! Santa brought them two honey sticks, and my sister bought them the orange dome.

Here they are a few days later, exploring under the tree. Red and green are the only two colours guinea pigs can see, so I'm sure they loved Christmas.

And finally, an outfit post! This is what I wore to church with my family on Christmas Eve.

The top in from Old Navy, size XXL. Skirt is thrifted, necklace is from F21, and the bow is self-made (I really just hot glued a gift bow to a hair clip).

I will be posting a lot more fashion-related posts this week, so please stay tuned. (Oh God I am a television now, aren't I?) But seriously, please do.

Oh, and my parents bought me Big Fat Manifesto by Susan Vaught for Christmas and I already finished reading it today. It was really fabulous, and I'm glad my parents bought it for me. This is a YA novel, but I highly suggest everyone read it.

As always lots of love and stuff. ♥

Faith 21!

Hey all! Just a head's up that Faith 21 is now offering some items in size 3X on the Forever 21 Canada site. I know, I know - this is old news to American shoppers, but still. There's not a lot I'm digging on their website right now, though I do really like this cardigan.

Floral Cardigan

I was doing some Christmas shopping at the mall today when I came across this floral cardigan in the Gap.

How fabulous is that? Really cute pattern, lovely colour combo, and as you know I am a huge fan of cardigans. Plus-size retailers? Please make this. Or heck, maybe the Gap should just offer size XXL in store. I am in la-la-la-love. ♥

Hello

Hello friend, fats, and blog-readers alike,

I don't have any new pictures to post, but I just gotta' say that I am really happy. Really quite happy actually. Please try to find joy in another's happiness, and I'll end you some good vibes in return.

Love always,
Sonia. ♥

P.S. Tonight I ordered Chinese food and when the owner recognized me over the phone, he sent over a free Shirley Temple. Awwe.

Mod Cloth

I'm sure this has been said before, but what's with Mod Cloth's incorrect sizing of plus sized items?

I've browsed Mod Cloth for years, since I was small enough to wear a few things there, so when they slowly began selling plus sized items I was excited. The sizing, however, is way off. Take for example this beautiful dress (and beautiful it is), and it goes up to 3X.

Except, size 3X translates into 37' bust and a 36' waist. Yeah, that is no plus size. According to Addition-Elle's size chart, a 3X would have a 50-52' bust and a 42-44' waist. Torrid's and Lane Bryant's sizing isn't that far off. I applaud them for trying, but even if the manufacturers sizing is off, Mod Cloth should correct that to avoid confused and frustrated customers.

This being said, Mod Cloth does have some cute stuff. They have some really cute accessories, apartment items, and even clothes. But seriously, the need to re-check their sizing, and (hopefully?) find cool, affordable designers that make larger sizes.

Touch of Class

Today was "Touch of Class" at school, where everyone was encouraged to dress up. I interpreted this as a "minimal touch of thrifted fance" and thought is was the perfect oppurtunity to wear this new skirt. I've never worn a clutch before, but thought the pale yellow worked well with the skirt. It did, but clutches are annoying, and my hand actually cramped, so this may have been the first and last time for me. A friend and I bought each other roses, that were delivered to everyone during their period 2 classes. Mine froze on the way home, and then wilted the second it defrosted. It's a shame since roses are beautiful.

eShakti

There are more than few things from eShakti that that I have my eye on. I haven't bought anything from them, but I have heard good things from people in the Fatshionista LJ Community. I really want to buy my grad dress from eShakti. I likely won't be ordering until the end of January, as no point spending non-Christmas related money now. I would love to get two dresses, one for commencement and one for the banquet, and perhaps a few tops for spring. I'm also really interested in the custom orders, since I am really particular about sleeves. here are some of the things on their website I really love right now.

So, have any of you purchased from eShakti before? Anything you love on their website right now? Do tell!

Thrifting Adventures

I asked my friend Kendra to grab a coffee Friday after school, and we ended up at a near-by Value Village. Turns out that not only does she love thrifting as much as I do, but we're the same size! How cool is that? Our styles aren't super similar, but this is very glee-worthy nonetheless.

I've actually hit up the thift store a couple times this week, and really want to share some of my finds.

pockets!

I absolutely love dresses and skirts with pockets. Love, I tell you!

Next up is this brown pasiley skirt. Because of the smocked waist, I can wear it high on the waist or low on the hips. I love smocking!
