Birthday Picnic

My 18th birthday isn't until the end of the month, but I celebrated it early with a picnic this afternoon. Oh, I'll go out for drinks once I'm of age, but this was exactly how I wanted to celebrate with my friends from school. We picnicked at the Legislature grounds, which are gorgeous and have fountains and wading pools to frolic in.

OOTD: polka dots
I am of the humble opinion that flip-flops are perfectly acceptable footwear in the summer months.

a dress
The dress is from Penningtons and the cardigan from Old Navy.

This beautiful vintage turquoise necklace was a graduation gift from my father.

Teal Toes
My feet are all beat up, all the time, but I was happy with the paint job.

lunch
So much delicious food! It was quasi-potluck style, and a few people brought food too.

pasta salad

sprinkles
White cupcake with white icing. Delish! It tasted exactly like the cupcakes that would've been at my fifth birthday.

mint & lemon
Chocolate cupcakes with mint icing, and lemon cupcakes with lemon icing. Both were a hit! Keegan helped me, and we made four batches in one afternoon.

dotty cupcakes
These cupcake liners are so cute!

Oreo cheesecake, recipe courtesy of Martha Stewart.

oreo
They use a whole Oreo as a "crust," how cool!

I thrifted these lovely linens to use as picnic blankets. They were nice and bog, and both of the prints are adorable.

I had such a wonderful time with my friends today. They are all so lovely, and I can't think of anything better than sunshine, good food, and good company.

  7. Looks cute, nice food!
This would've looked extra cuter with flats or something, though, or a different sandal.

  9. Thank you everyone!

@Jennifer, picnics are so nice, I hope my friends and I have more in the future.

@Katie, I don't know if it's normal, per se, but it's definitely not that uncommon.

@Elizabeth, Penningtons is definitely worth the occasional look around, I've found some great pieces there.

@misss_e, that would be delicious! I haven't perfected cheese cake yet, but I may have to try that next time
